Ever since I can remember, I have loved baking and cooking in general. I constantly remember Grandma’s butterfly cupcakes and how yummy they tasted and how special they looked. Being able to take the ‘wings’ off first and then demolish the rest, there was just something satisfying and fun about this.
I had forever worked in cafe’s and always thought about becoming a chef. I admired the chef’s and what they put to the table (literally), however I also saw the stress behind it all and thought that I love my cooking too much to make it become stressful.
It wasn’t until I had gone through my partying years and had my beautiful daughter, that I realised that I didn’t want to work for someone else for the rest of my life, I wanted to become something of my own.
I tried to think of my passions or talents that I could put towards opening my own business.
I never would have dreamed to open my own Cake Business. I didn’t think that I was good enough, I hadn’t had enough experience, I’d never been to decorating classes and I had never done a course in regards to running my own business.
But then my ‘Angel’ came along. Rebekah Allan, owner of Angel Foods sent me a little information on her Franchise option that she had available! Oh wow! To be a Franchisee of Angel Foods would have been amazing… However, I couldn’t afford it.
I signed up to Rebekah’s ecourse in which she gave me a whole heap of tips that wouldn’t even have crossed my mind. Along with this, I finished off my studies for Diploma in Business Management.
Long story short, after all of the inspiration and courage that everybody (including myself) instilled in me, I got the balls up to open a business myself.
People often ask me why? Why would I open a business in times like these when the economy is not so great? Why would I open up a Cake Business when there are more experienced and well established Cake Businesses out there? Why would I want to quit my position as Café Manager and start from scratch with no income?
Plain and simple…
I love to bake,
I love to decorate,
I love to see the joy on people’s faces,
I love to make people’s bellies smile!
